In the late 1940s and early 1950s Pan American realized its long-cherished goal of serving Europe’s major destinations. This poster is one in a series that features the luxurious Boeing Stratocruiser introduced in 1949. It was popular with passengers who loved its cozy sleeping berths on the long nights across the Atlantic and the Pacific. But the Stratocruiser was technically cantankerous and less economical than its sleeker competitors and only fifty-five were built. Over a thousand served with the U.S. Air Force as air-to-air tanker aircraft.
