DESCRIPTION:

Sandy Hook was almost exclusively a marine artist. Serving in France’s submarine command in World War I, he received the title of Navy Painter. Commerce is the name of the game in his poster for Messageries Maritimes, which provides passenger, mail and cargo service all over the world.The poster vessel is the Champollion, in service from 1925 to 1952, at which time the ship was declared a “total loss” after running aground in Beirut.
