Italia / Italy Travel

by Cassandre
YEAR:
1936
SIZE:
39 1/2 x 25 inches (100 x 63 1/2 cm)
REFERENCE NUMBER:
3264

DESCRIPTION:

Cassandre designed this tourism poster during a holiday on the shore of Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. The Mussolini regime had passed a law banning Italian companies from commissioning French artists; to get around it, Cassandre’s publisher in Italy invited him to work in Italy. Though the style was obviously his, Cassandre played along and used the monogram “A.M.C.” to conceal his French name.
