It was at the Chateau de Cognac, in 1494, that Francis the First, one of the greatest Kings of France was born. Three centuries later, in 1795, the Baron Otard founded his Cognac company and showed a marvelous sense of intuition, when he decided to age his stock of fine Cognac within the massive walls of the same Chateau.
Cognac Otard bottles are unique and were specifically created for Otard cognac in 1968. When you swirl cognac in a glass to enable a better release of its aromas, it leaves a very thin film on the sides of the glass from which a few droplets slowly run down like tears. That explains the saying that the cognac “is crying”. Those tears formed the inspiration for the shape of the Otard bottles, originally used for the “Prince de Cognac” quality. Given its success, the shape was subsequently extended to the majority of the Otard range in 1986, thus creating a strong identity for the brand.
