Patrone was a Genoa-born painter and illustrator who was active in his native city. His ten or so posters, designed in the years right after the Second World War were mostly for steamship companies-Tirennia, the Italian Line and Lloyd-Triestino. Here we see him inspired by Cassandre’s classic 1935 image for the Normandie (see No. 228), communicating massive power with a looming hull viewed looking up from the water’s level.
