Animals were a favorite motif of Carigiet; in 1935, he used a rooster to sell PKZ clothes (see reference #3995) and here, two years earlier, it’s a fox in elegant sportsman’s garb, outfitted with a rifle and trademark satchel for his day of chase. In the course of a long career, Carigiet was a posterist, painter in oils, stage and costume designer and children’s book illustrator.

Peta people, look away! Though this beautifully rendered example of a swift rabbit dominates the foreground of the poster, it’s clear that this fluffy fellow is intended to be little more than target practice for the background’s tiny hunter and his trusty Winchester rife.
Pursell was born in Tennessee and studied at the Chicago Art Institute. He produced some of the finest Art Deco designs for Coca-Cola, American Airlines, the Chicago World’s Fair and others, but his work is extremely difficult to find today.
